About
My name is Megan Winchell Peter and I’m an artist from New Jersey. I intend to create 52 small portraits this year, one every week.
Three years ago I began a project creating a visual family tree. I was, and continued to be, inspired by how a photograph may function as a stand-in for a memory of a person or experience. Working from an archive of family photographs, I’ve created a series of graphite drawings that conjure an idealized and nostalgic family history.
This personal endeavor sparked the interest of others in my work and inspired many to document their own families through my portraits. Thus, if you are interested in purchasing a small custom portrait and participating in a larger work of art, you may contact me to reserve one of the fifty-two faces of your family member, friend or other folks.
This collection of portraits chronicles a body of small works over the course of this year and a new face is posted each week. Each portrait is rendered in a small format as a vignette, and is typically about 4”x 6”.
