Week 18: Face #18

by Megan on May 14, 2010

The way the sun illuminates Face #18 is so beautiful.  The boy in this image is fishing with his dad and brother on a hot summer afternoon. His expression is so intent and focused  - I love it.

Week 17: Face #17

by Megan on May 7, 2010

Don’t you love a child’s sense of humor? The adorable boy in Face #17 sneaks up some “devil horns” right before his mom snaps his picture.  You can tell how satisfied he is with this goofy gesture!

Week 12: Face #12

by Megan on March 28, 2010

Ah…to be two years old again!  I love the look of pure joy on a toddler’s face at play.  The portrait for Face #12 was rendered from a photograph of this happy little man playing with his trains.  This portrait captures a momentary break from playing with the train-set to flash an adorable smile towards mom.

Week 11: Face #11

by Megan on March 19, 2010

I love the playful expression and gesture of the little boy in Face #11. There is nothing better than when your baby gets to an age where he or she can really play with you!  Face #11 captures a moment of play where this sweet toddler waits in anticipation for Mom or Dad to throw his ball back to him.

Week 10: Face #10

by Megan on March 11, 2010

There is something very tender about the preteen stage of life.  Face #10 is of a young man who is around 9 or 10 years of age.  His expression is so endearing in the way that it is both a bit timid and mischievous.  Working on this portrait brought me back to the years I spent teaching middle school.  It made my heart ache a little bit thinking about those times, as I really do miss those children.  I know that I will be there soon enough with my own daughter, as time passes so quickly.

Week 7: Face #7

February 19, 2010 Family

This image depicts the essence of my grandfather as a young man.  In reflecting back to what my Papa looked like, I remember that his eyes were were a lovely shade of blue, and I think this image really captures their beauty.  I loved working on this portrait, as it displays a quiet, gentle side [...]

Week 5: Face #5

February 5, 2010 Family

Have you ever had the experience where someone takes a photograph of you, and even if it is a flattering image, it doesn’t truly resemble you?  It’s incredible to think that something like a photograph, which is capturing a real moment at the time, can reveal something  that doesn’t seem true.  Face #5 is an [...]

Week Four: Face #4

January 29, 2010 Family

I’m so excited!  This image is the first of a series of portraits I am creating for my family.  My father came up with a wonderful concept to create a large scale family tree on one of the walls in my parents’ home.  I met with both my parents to discuss their vision for this [...]

Week Two: Face #2

January 15, 2010 Men

Face #2 is the second pair from the gratitude portraits.  What I love about both Face #1 and Face#2 is the inherent history in both the photographic references I worked from.  Both of the images depict somber men from a past era.  Although both images portray faces with serious expressions, there is a softness and [...]

Week One: Face #1

January 8, 2010 Men

This is the first portrait that I’ve worked on this year, and it is truly such a meaningful image.  I was asked to create a pair of portraits as a gift of gratitude for a woman who has sacrificed many things in her life in order to care for aging parents and relatives . Face [...]
